Quality of information

The quality of information unit promotes our strategic objective of becoming a pioneer in the environmental information value chain. This objective is achieved through Syke’s networked research and expert work to improve the production and dissemination of information and to support societal decision-making. 

There are three groups working under the Quality of information unit:

The duties of the groups under Quality of information unit 

Novel monitoring group 

  • develops cooperation between various environmental monitoring programmes, recognises synergies between these and engages in dialogue according to the goals for the monitoring strategy on the state of the environment,  
  • promotes the deployment of advanced research and monitoring methods as part of the implementation of monitoring strategies,  
  • manages the introduction, services and utilization of satellite observations in environmental monitoring,  
  • takes part in the development of cooperation between Syke's research infrastructures and links research to decision-making.  

Method development group 

  • develops and pilots environmental monitoring and methods that support research by focusing in satellite observations, modelling, machine learning methods and molecular biological monitoring methods,  
  • surveys and assesses methods related to environmental research and monitoring whose significance is presumed to grow, and supports their deployment at Syke,  
  • participates in the development of services that promote the use of materials produced with new methods.  

Open science group 

  • manages Syke's open science services and promotes the operating culture related to this at Syke,  
  • develops the researched information production process and guidelines for research ethics,  
  • manages the development of Syke's process for applications for EU funding,  
  • develops and manages the administration of Syke's publications and reporting that supports monitoring of the quality of research,  
  • manages Syke's information services, including procurement of information materials.
